Thai gold
« on: November 24, 2012, 01:46:46 PM »
You just never know when a thunderbolt will come through the roof. Just finished my toast and marmalade at brekky this morning, and the TGF casually announces "darleeeeeing .... a couple of baht of thai gold would be nice ... !! "

WTF !!

I thought she was going to ask me to mow the lawn, or vacuum the dead blowies out of the window sill, or something.

Seems as though she has a GF that has a farang BF, and he has just unloaded some shiny stuff on her. So now it's "lets play keeping up with the Jones'ssss" thing I guess.

Anyway ... I now have a fat lip.

Not because she clocked me, but because I chomped down pretty hard on it to stop laughing. Now that I've had time to think about it, I'm a bit worried, as maybe I've had my last root for a while unless I go shopping.

Why am I telling you all this ?  Well, it's been a little while ... like decades ... since I seriously went gold shopping. Probably the reason that I'm still single ?? You think ??  I need a bit of local advice here about where the nearest gold mine is, or the timetable for the next stage coach coming through with the all the bullion.

Seriously though, I've never purchased Thai gold for a girlfriend before, so what's the deal guys ? Especially from you blokes that have Thai wives and have been through this. I've read a bit today from other expat forums on this topic, but thought I would involve the Buriram mob.

I wonder what Bill Gates missus asks for after her toast in the morning ?  "Bill .... I rather fancy another Lear jet today ... and perhaps a small country to park it in ... ?"

Look forward to your comments guys.

Nothing hard about it  smooth2.

Just go to a gold shop and buy what she wants.

Shes happy and you will get more roots than you can handle.

At least for a little while

PS... are you an aussie smooth2 ?

Thanks Somnat ... I reckon you are right ... easy easy no problem.

Did the "blowies" thing give me away ?

I had a Canadian girlfriend 100 years ago that told me she roots hard for the local football team !! I couldn't believe my luck.

Every culture has it's quirky language hey !!

Agree 100%.

Back in 2005 I think it was, Mrs Somnat convinced me to buy into gold.

Going price then was 8200 Bht / Baht from memory.

Glad I listened to her.

Understand your point guys, but who really knows which way gold will go.

Doesn't matter really. It's an issue for me now. I'm not going to put this on hold hoping the gold price will go down. The price is kind of irrelevent. I'll go shopping regardless.

Not too much of a problem though. To put $$ into perspective, I quit smoking 4 months ago. Was costing me $16 Aussie every day for a packet of lung busters. (500b)

Silly as it seems, I've saved 60000b in 4 months from not smoking !!  Ummm ... that'll buy 2 baht of shiny stuff !!
