:o Okey,...I think I not can live on 30 000 bht/monht..I have been in Buriram before( 3 year) and live with house, car, motorbike..and...nearly everything paid! But.. when you over 60...like myself..I like a good life..like to travel....eat good..and dont forget isurance and electric, tv, internet.....its expensive now..and I dont like to live like a Thai!!

I think 40-45 000 bht is the lowest for have a normal good life at the end of my life..otherwise I have a better life in Sweden!! party5

Take care everyone!

Very difficult to compare as everyone lives in a different situation. My wife has her house, car, paid for. Other stuff that makes it complicated. I reckon that we could live ok with  ฿30 000.- but other activities (beer for instance) would be be curtailed.
It's the unexpected things that upset a rationally set up budget.
So I reckon: dunno.

I agree with you.  I could probably live on 30,000 baht a month, but not sure I would want to.  I am enjoying life and cheap things in Thailand, usually going on holiday for a week somewhere each month.

But if I really had to live on strict budget I would have remained in the US and working.

However, to each his own.  I know a guy that doesn't have a pot to piss in, but enjoys it here because of the lack of stress, plus he has dropped 20 kilos from not drinking.

So if a simple life, close to the Thail way will make you happy, 30K baht is doable.  But what will you be doing to keep your sanity for the rest of the month?

I have heard of a lot of Farangs that cannot handle the "nothingness".

How many of the average Thais living a simple life earn 30,000baht / month. If you must referance living simple thai life then try 10,000baht / month!
30,000baht / month or 1000baht / day is enough for farang to live simple for sure but leaves nothing for flights home or a new car when the current one gets tired etc. Something always crops up.

Ahab is not here yet or coming for a couple of years which could see changes in financial needs at that time.

I concur with the above.
The question is do you want to live or exist here???

Some people have worked hard stressful lives
and need a bit of comfort at their age, but as stated everyones needs are different.

I plan on making the move to Isaan in a couple of years. Wife of 20+ years already owns the land, we will build a house and buy a car with cash. Plan is to budget 30,000 baht per month for living expenses and bank the rest of my retirement pay each month.  I value the opinion of the Buriram expats, is this doable?

As you can see the OP said a budget of 30000 a month for "living expences". Nothing about travel or flights home. I took it to mean that he wants to come here and relax in Issan. I still think that, with all the big things bought and paid for, 30000 is a good life and not just an existence.

No quite sure what F1art meant, but never mind.

Flaming or a joke, your call?

I will agree to disagree with you Steve!

Have a good day (TGIF!)

Apparently David has started to rub old engine oil into his wooden handle to keep infestations at bay so I wouldn't trust his judgment too much!
