Help Needed
« on: October 29, 2012, 06:26:17 PM »
Hi Guys

Hoping you can help a new poster with some advice and tips for my wedding near Lahan Sai in janaury next year. Have posted elsewhere on net with limited response.

The overall organisation of the wedding (monks, music etc)  has been delegated to my fiancee but there are a few areas I need help with.

1) Farrang food - Theres about 12 farrangs attending and eating the local food will not be an option for virtually all of them, as such I need some farrang catering. Lahan Sai has one little restaurant from memory that serves farrang food. Does anyone have contact details, would some basic food to go be possible? I now have the name of some German guy near Nang Rong but good to know all options.

2) On previous visitis Ive stayed just outside Lahan Sai in a motel beside the karaoke bars and also further away in Muagsud Bungalows which were lovely. Are there any other places ideal for 12 farrangs to stay?

3) I want to be in charge of buying the alcohol, on the basis half of it will be drunk by my bride to bes brother before the wedding if she is, :-) Is Non Din Deang the nearest decent supermarket to stock up?

Thats about it and also any other advice any locals posters can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Tullynagardy, welcome to BE :)

And congratulations on your up coming marriage.

Assuming you are having the party catered, just add 2 or 3 Fa-rang friendly dishes when doing the booking.

The caterer should also be able to supply all of the alcohol. Delivered on the day, served by their staff. So no worries there.

Cant help about accommodation. No idea where Lahan Sai even is :(

Hokee supermarket in Nang Rong is the place to get all your drinks. As Somnat says get your caterer to put on some dishes for the farangs. What nationality are the farangs that will be attending?

Congrats!!
There is a fairly decent resort-ish place near the lake just NW of Lahan Sai; however, upon seeing a farang, their eyes light up as they bring out the special farang price list   moneysmile.  One misguided Fin paid 20,000 baht for a one night stay a couple years ago; other farongs rerouted his "guide".

Would agree with Nookiebear.  Some really good places in Nang Rong; and it's a short drive.

Hi there,
Non Din Deang market has some decent local type supermarkets/trade house that you will be able to buy your booze from at a decent price.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I`ve already had a PM which looks perfect to meet the catering aspect for the farrang guests. (from London and Belfast mainly)

I`ve stayed in the area quite a few times and always thought Muangsud in Ban Kruat was the nicest by a long way. Only issues is its very isolated  and nothing nearby – that’s why im thinking Nang Rong or at the very least Lahan Sai is a better option as at least you can get a drink somewhere! (that wee bar beside the market always has a few farrangs on a Saturday from memory) If anyones got any names or numbers of hotels it would be great!? Its amazing how few have websites.

The Phanom Rung Puri is perhaps the newest and best (just north of the 24 on the Chamni road). The Park is decent (if you can find it !  -  map attached).

Great job putting all the info together, Co-Co.
Having never stayed at these places, my comments are based on general observations.
I would certainly agree that the Phanom Rung Puri appears to be really nice.   However, seems the Park has much more appeal if I were afoot.  Various places to eat; enjoy a stroll along the lake; a few shops.  It appears there are several places for a beer as well, but not for sure about that one.

At the Phanom Rung Puri, seems it would be a longer walk to get a beer; and while that might be ok, at the end of the night, it's always a plus to have a crash pad close at hand.  I have stayed at Popsuk, but had the same issue; everything seemed to be a good distance away and getting a taxi wasn't very easy.
