Major highway closure for protest at hy 214 & hy 24 intersection

A major rod closure by 18 and 20 wheel rice hauling truck have blocked the intersection of highway 214 and highway 24 in Prasat. I counted 50 at 5:30PM. This protest I understand is over rice.. ALL traffic is effected so expect delays. Traffic is being rerouted. Traffic is being redirect as far south as the 224 highway. As of this posting it is on going.

Every truck has a driver.

Every driver is breaking the law.

They should all be arrested, the trucks impounded and heavy - YES HEAVY -  penalties dished out.

Regardless of their grievances, they have no right to disrupt other motorists.

Others would soon learn

Where is their "boss" when they need him?

Prasat is one of the largest red shirt communities in the area.

Good luck to the truckers (rice farmers).   don't think the truckers or their families living on the bread line will worry too much about a few fat farang who get held up, whilst they go for their full English breakfast.  It's great to see that poor people can hold a demonstration in Thailand with out being shot or jailed with out a court case.

P.S.  Also a few farang sadly believe where they come from is a country called paradise - very sad.

It's nothing to do with the reasons for the protest/road closure. It's more to do with the law.

If it's against the law to block roads, then the law should be vigorously enforced.

Nothing to do with farangs and breakfast. The 24 is a major highway linking towns to the East of Prasat to Bangkok. Hundreds of people travel daily through the Prasat crossroads en-route to Suvarnabhumi. How many were delayed and possibly lost their flights.

Truckers living on the breadline? Ha fcuking ha!!!

Think again Andy!

I have to say Nick, for a man that has lived in Thailand for as long you have I find your outburst on this thread remarkable! "The Law is the law"!!! Have you heard yourself? If you want to start implimenting the "law" in Thailand then where the f^"k would you start?  As you well know very few minor laws are strict in Thailand and due to that it has its risks. But, it also has its appeal. Thailand is a democracy not as we know it and these Thai citizens have every right to hold a peaceful protest for whatever their reasons. Any protest that has an effect causes some disruption.  I feel its good to see the Thai authorities observing the rights of its people.
It does upset me when I here supperior attitudes with rasist undertones, especially from expats towards pats. And how dare anybody belittle poverty when they have never had to suffer it!
Nick your only another farang, nobody remarkable that has made any significant contribution to anything worthwhile as far as I know so I suggest you get a grip, chill out and ask what it is that appeals to living where you do rather than where you did. If you can't find the answer and would prefer to live in democratic police state then .... ... to whence you came! wave1
