Nothing to do with luck. I get pulled over by a Thai policeman. So I ask him in Thai what the problem is.

I don't try to be smug. I don't offer him money, as has been advised on forums before.

No problems then no fine.

Show respect to get respect.

I had a breakin at my Jomtien home many years ago. 13 Police officers attended at 2am.

The following afternoon 2 Police arrived and said they would be able to find the burglar -if i was willing to pay them 6000bt. Otherwise nothing doing!

I had insurance, so naturally it did not bother me whether the burglar was apprehended or not!

Some of us have been here long enough Davu, to know what we are talking about. nothing cynical about it!

I have been here for many many years and to be perfectly honest have never had a problem with the police.

Have had encounters with the police but never come across any corruption. Have been stopped for speeding. Got a ticket and paid the correct 200 baht fine.
Nowadays if you get a ticket they normally want 400 baht,,,,the tollways around Bangkok its 800 if you are lucky ,1000 if you're not

Keep your speed down, don't drink and drive and generally drive carefully and sensibly and it won't cost you a single baht!

Well, you'd think that was the case but now on two seperate occasions whilst driving on highway 24 back from Korat I have been stopped and told I was speeding. In fact I was travelling at 90kph on a road where the speed limit is 100kph. On both occasions the police officer informed me that ' today, the speed limit is 80kph '.

There is no 100km/hr speed limit. The maximum on motorways is 120kmph whilst on all other roads the MAXIMUM IS 90 or less.

The answer for all farangs living in Thailand (i.e not short term tourists) is to say ...OK lets sort it out in court."  You'll be on your way  with no problem very quickly.

The feedback from the other night is ..........10,000baht bail pending court, for those who cannot pay they are currently locked up in Nang Rong police station!!
A little add on,the ones that are out on bail have to report to Nang Rong Police Station once every week

Once a week reporting whilst on  bail. So what about the poor bastards that could not come up with 10,000bt bail? Confined to the police lock-up until the Judges can get up off their arses?  Serves them right!!!!
