Pattaya Is Thailand’s Role Model

PATTAYA:--Pattaya has been selected as the official role model for other resort destinations in Thailand, according to the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).

With a focus on MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions), Akapol Sorasuchart, outgoing president of TCEB, praised Pattaya as a resort leader for others to follow, having introduced many routes for international and domestic corporations, destination management companies and professional convention organisers.

Pattaya and Chonburi were identified offering six distinct types of activity ranging from adventure tourism to luxury tourism products.

Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome reflected on the city’s long history of attracting tourists and holiday makers, but pointed that Pattaya now is interested in attracting more business travelers, especially as their spending profile tended to be about 25 percent higher.

And the various mafias, the drugs, the underage prostitution?  Definitely a hub!

I was there a few months ago and I was amazed at all the farang families there.  In 2008 I remember sitting in a bar at night watch people go by, did not remember a lot of families.  If Feb it seemed every 5 minutes a family walked by.

This keeps up Thailand will have to start up a new monger town.

All very true but I would suggest those families spend 10% when compared to the other types of tourists and sit out side 7/11 drinking cheap booze when not barging others out of the way on walkways.  moneysmile moneysmile

What I fear is that it will force Pattaya to change to a family tourist town rather than a candy store for guys.  While I don't partake of Pattaya trade anymore, I do like to have a beer there and watch the babes go by.

But I have read that Pattaya Police are starting to crack down more and more (might just be businesses that don't pay off police), like I heard the Devil's Den was shut down for a bit (but open again).

Would be sad to have Pattaya become a "respectable" place instead of great vacation spot.
