Police find caviar stored in containers next to dead bodies at morgue
Corpses at a St Petersburg hospital in Russia were found to be stored alongside expensive caviar after a raid by police.
The particular brand of caviar - a popular Russian delicacy for the New Year holidays - was stashed in a body storage room in containers labelled 'Biological Waste'.
A 64-year-old Russian entrepreneur and his 42-year-old accomplice, a morgue attendant, were said by police to be responsible for the caviar being hidden in such a peculiar place.
298 pounds of the red and black fish eggs were discovered in containers labelled 'Aviation Security Checked'.
The two men claimed to be storing the caviar for a new year party for hospital staff.
Police are currently investigating the origins of the caviar and checking whether its storage at the morgue violates sanitary laws.
It is reported that one kilogram of Caspian black caviar could be worth between$1,500 and $3,000.
