Hahaha thats funny!! :D  Good on you for taking care of the wife in the middle of the night!!
Yeh the ghost thing is pretty serious.  My wife woke me up one night in a hotel saying two men were just there and described them.  I scan the room quickly .. jump outta bed ready to do battle....with me willy leading the way.   slapfight Check the door to see if its locked from the INSIDE ( I was on the 7th floor of the Thepnakorn) then checked the bath then check the windows ..... all was clear.
I tried to tell her she'd had a dream but she was having none of that. I soon realized further discussion was going to lead to a pissed of wife so pulled her close and assure her that 'no ghost were gonna get her' ... she fell alseep..... I kept an eye out for further paranormal activity. newsleeping
I got none of the 'bravery accolades' you did...but then I didnt go into the jungle   spot1

It was not much of a choice I was more scared of a pregnant wife with food cravings than the jungle LOL
Your story has just reminded me of a very strange experience I had at my in laws home the first time my wife and I came back to Thailand.
We had been back in the village maybe two or three nights and had gone to bed, I woke up for no reason to see the silhouette of my wife sat up next to me in bed, rubbing my eyes I asked what she was doing and when I took my hands away from my eyes no silhouette and she was sleeping behind me. Pretty freaky hey?
Anyway I told her this the next morning and she went straight to her grandmother and told her what had happened.
she was told that the Mountain was upset (Panom rung, we live at is foot) because we had promised to take a pigs head to it as soon as we returned to Thailand and had not done so yet. so that was it motorcycle everywhere to find a pigs head and up we went made the offering, and it never happened again.
but it was a very strange experience.

Jon, Nick

I got no problem with a few ghost roaming around. I grew up in  a haunted house so these things seem almost normal to me. Everybody knows Buriram with its Khemer background is rife with witchcraft and beautiful thai women that put spells on Farang. nowinkbar
You cant do anything of significance in a village in Buriram without consulting to see which day and time is best. And it Always invovles the white dude paying up for something party11

Jon - take more water with it or, leave the Chang alone  redman

The foot of that mountain must be covered in pig's heads! we have land a couple of clicks away and the guy who dug out our 40m x 25m pond asked for a pig's head so he could make the offering before he started work. The idea is to obtain good weather and conditions so it is a smooth job.

Anyone wanting a pigs head for these stupid purposes, whether wife, family or contractor would be told by me to go and buy their own bloody pigs head.

I will NOT be involved in any of this lunacy!

Anyone who coughs up for all this crap needs to think again!

Nick,
I don't really know if I believe in the Pigs head thing, but I truly saw my wives silhouette sat up in bed when in fact she was sleeping behind me, maybe it was the chang I don't know?
But it did freak out the family as I'm sure with your Thai experience you can appreciate, we have taken many pigs heads up the mountain for many different reasons over the years, does it work in some cases our luck had changed but many times no change at all, what else would you expect, even when we go to the temples the monks will advise us to do these ancient pre Buddhist practices to help out. It is all placebo science but it keeps them happy just like bits of string around your wrists.
I quite like it all and they are always happy when this stuff goes on. Thinking about it I'm quite  superstitious also, I always touch wood, salute magpies, won't open umbrellas inside, so I probably need to take some water with my Chang like CoCo says but as long as it doesn't hurt anyone it's all good no?
No dark magic which must be bad if it works or not as the intentions are negative and some will get hurt one way or another.
How much is a Pigs head today ? last time it was about 350 bhat, small price to pay for calm in the house.

Before we consider the luck of the early bird perhaps we should consider the bad luck of the early worm  smilenod

Jon ... for what its worth I agree with you.  Yeh I agree with you that it is Placebo Science but it works for them. If it works for my wife and makes her smile ... well .. thats good enough for me.  Just look at all the pro atheletes that MUST have that necklace or those socks in order to win. Western culture is not so different but we do it privately.
And yeh....350 bt for a head is worth every penny if you are the hero that keeps peace in the house.

Soooo this thread about a cobra in the house has become a thread about pigs heads

You guys trying to tell me something ??   Fortunately my wife doesnt do the pigs head thing ... she leaves that to the khemer side of Buriram so Im not forking out 350bt every other week. All in all I dont think she has too many superstitious rituals as pronounced as a pigs head. She likes to do Merit and believes in ghosts and cant kill a COBRA IN HER HOUSE  but all in all I think I'll keep her
