The Lower Northeastern Region encompasses Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Chaiyaphum, Buri Ram, Surin, Yasothon and Amnat Charoen.
The special operation center is to help making artificial rains as a remedy for the people and farmers experiencing hardship from drought in the area, especially in Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket and Amnat Charoen.
The special centre has requested additional two aircraft from the Royal Thai Air Force to join the rain-making operation of the existing two aircraft. Within next week the Center will make artificial rains again in the drought stricken area.
To induce rains, flights will be scheduled twice a day and three flights a week. Each flight uses 2,500 kilograms of chemicals. The success of rain-making depends on many factors ranging from weather condition to the level of humidity in the atmosphere.
Anyway, officials expressed confidence that there will be more than 70 percent chance of success in the rain enhancement based on the current weather condition.
