How to Apply for a Thailand Re-Entry Permit
« on: October 28, 2011, 11:10:48 AM »
One of the most significant things to remember before leaving Thailand is the importance of getting a re-entry permit, if leaving on a single-entry Thai visa. Failure to do so will automatically forfeit the remaining period of visa validity. Hence, when one wants to go back to the Kingdom, one is compelled to undergo again the visa application procedure. Worse, if one previously obtained a work permit, that will also be automatically invalidated the day he or she departed.

When a foreigner wants to leave Thailand momentarily and go back using the same single-entry visa, a re-entry permit must be obtained. Re-entry permits are being issued by the Thai Immigration Bureau and can actually be obtained at any immigration check point throughout the Kingdom.

Requirements

The following are the documentary requirements for a re-entry permit:

1. Application form (T.M. 8 )
2. Passport or travel document and a copy
3. Applicant’s 4x6 cm. photograph
4. Payment for application fee (the fee for single entry and multiple entries visa differ)

Once the process has been completed, a re-entry permit will be stamped on his or her passport. This serves as a permission to go back using the same visa, provided that the visa is still valid on the date of return.

I wonder whether EVERY check point will in fact be able to offer a re-entry permit, or even be aware that they are supposed to offer them.

I use Chong Sa Ngam (Sisaket) crossing regularly. They are not computer linked to Bangkok, and I would be surprised if they do it.

Perhaps Siam legal can suggest how to ensure the Chong Sa Ngam Immigration scammers can be stopped.

On each journey to Cambodia through this check point, they demand a 50bt payment from everyone, (Foreigners, Thais, and even those holding Diplomatic passports). Last time upon returning, they asked for a further 50bt, but we refused.

Plus the 100 Baht admin fee on the Cambodian entry !

Would a Thai government official dare to be corrupt?

Please indicate the source of this statement regarding issue of re-entry permits at any checkpoint....

I apologize, some information in the article we posted is outdated. I will update it. According to the Thai Immigration Bureau's website, re-entry permits are available at any checkpoint. But I checked with one of our visa consultants in the office, and he confirmed that this policy has changed. As of now, re-entry permits are only available at an immigration office.
