Watch what you lick!!
« on: September 27, 2011, 03:03:28 AM »
Envelopes and Stamps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yum1

A woman was working in a post Office in California . One day she licked the
envelopes and postage stamps instead of using a sponge. That very day the lady found a cut on her tongue. A week later, she noticed an abnormal swelling of her tongue. She went to the doctor, and they found nothing wrong..
Her tongue was not sore or anything.. A couple
of days later, her tongue started to swell more, and it began to get really sore, so sore, that she could not eat. She went back to the hospital, and demanded something be done.

The doctor took an x-ray of her tongue and noticed a lump. He prepared her for minor surgery. When The doctor cut her tongue open, a live cockroach crawled out!!!!
There were cockroach eggs on the seal of the
Envelope. The egg was able to hatch inside of
her tongue, because of her saliva, which was warm and moist.....
This is a true story reported on CNN!

Andy Hume wrote: Hey, I used to work in an envelope factory. You wouldn't believe the....things that float around in those gum applicator trays. I haven't licked an envelope for years!'

I used to work for a print shop(32 years ago), and we were told NEVER to lick the envelopes. I never understood why until I had to go into storage and pull out 2500 envelopes that were already printed and saw several squads of cockroaches roaming around inside a couple of
boxes with eggs everywhere. They eat the glue
on the envelopes.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO YOUR FRIENDS!

After reading this you will never lick another envelope or stamp again.

Do you believe CNN?

Perhaps that's the real reason why you are supposed never to lick the back of a stamp when you put it on a letter in the Post Office!

I know that golfers have been warned not to lick their balls - but this takes the biscuit.

Thai Post offices don't use stamps. Postage  is all franked.

But BEWARE. When taking a letter into the post office, and having finally reached the front of the queue after all the old ladies have cashed their money orders, the postage due is often written on the envelope for later franking. I sometimes doubt that these letters are ever sent -the cash paid being pocketed!

And why can't they have a stamps only queue?

You can use stamps if you want to.  When I used to get a lot of mail from students sending me their grades, by far the majority preferred to use stamps.  Of course the real reason you're not supposed to lick stamps is lese majeste.

The post office in this 'one horse' town Nong Ki does indeed have a seperate counter for dealing with post/parcels!!!
True they dont use stamps but they do sell them!!!

Krasang is much more civilised.  There is only one counter in use, but if you want to mail letters/parcels, you go to the front of the queue (not just farang aggressiveness, either... Thais do so too).  They also sell stamps.

Hate to break it to you, but this is an "urban myth" that's been around since about 1998. The story originally was about a girl getting the cockroach eggs from eating at Taco Bell but then the story was changed in about 2000 to be the envelope licking.

See   http://www.snopes.com/horrors/food/tacobell.asp
for this particular tall story, and take a look at Snopes.com when you are suspicious (as I often am).

Enjoyed the post office stories, though, ours in Prasat does a pretty good job. I don't get stamps from them though. stop1
