Northeastern Buri Ram province declared 23 districts as disastrous areas after local residents have been troubled by shortage of water.
Buri Ram deputy governor Mr. Serm Chainarong (เสริม ไชยณรงค์) said today (February 20) that the province has declared all of its 23 districts as disastrous areas after its officials had inspected the drought hazard and found local residents in the areas having been hampered by lack of water.
He said the province initially set up a centre to provide relief for troubled residents by distributing water to them. While long term solution was that the province's officials developed reserved water resources to ensure sufficient water supply to local people.

Three districts in northeastern Buri Ram province proposed to the governor to declare the areas as disastrous areas after up to 4,000 local households have faced water shortage problem.
An officials of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, Buri Ram, Mr. Pornchet Saengthong stated on Thursday (February 19) that the province's local residents in three districts have confronted drought problem with urgent need of water. So far, 4,000 local households have faced the problem. Local leaders in the three districts have gathered relevant information and planned to propose to the province's governor to declare the districts as disastrous areas.
The province had allocated 500,000 baht for each district in solving the drought hazard. Local administration organizations could seek more relief to the province which still possessed budget amounting to 38 million baht.
