Road 226 Buriram-Surin Expansion.

Road 226 Buriram-Surin Expansion project is going very well, 2 lanes each side, bridges are being constructed and it is looking good.
The traveling between both provinces (Surin & Buriram) will get much safer and quicker. drivinggear  congrats

No, it will be quicker (maybe) and more dangerous;  the amount of traffic on that road doesn't justify the widening.

The Buriram - Surin road is/was very narrow, and overtaking motorbikes was often difficult. That being said, this road widening, and practically every other major road exiting Buriram, currently being widened are being done at the expense of the 24 from Nang Rong - Prasat. Wrong priorities!

However, I did see a large poster in Prasat this week which announced that construction of a dual carriageway between Prasat and Prakhonchai will commence this year. (most likely 31st December!)

Well ! the Asian Highway 24 is very far away from Napho where I live. I never use it. The Asian Highway 2 is in good condition. I always use it when I go to Korat or to Chok Chai or beyond.
I am very happy with the attempts lately to widen at least parts of the road from Phutthaisong to Buriram.
Besides I am not sure but it may be that the Asian Highways have their own budget separated from the budgets for the local provinsial roads.  :P

I agree,Nick. that is a lethal road and more often than not, I have seen fatalities when using it. I wonder if anyone can share a link on RTA's(Road Traffic Accidents) on the local highways. Surely, the 24 will come up tops??? reiki1

I agree with Issanbirder. I believe it will become more dangerous as some of the locals will see it as an oppotunity to drive faster.

Also those that decide to drive at a sensible pace will most probably be in the outside lane.

Driving continuously in the outside lane, when the inside is clear represents in my view a greater danger to all motorists than speeding. These drivers annoy me. Flash them as much as you like and they won't budge. I invariably overtake them on the inside with my horn blaring and fingers gesticulating -all to no avail. Others overtake them on the other carriage way. chairhit

100bt fines for this offence are ridiculous, even though they are rarely caught. 10,000bt and 6 months suspension is warranted. CoCo would also advocate surgery!  bravo1
