90 Day Stay Within 6 Months Requirement
« on: May 01, 2011, 04:26:19 AM »
I will be traveling to Thailand tomorrow and would like to know more about the "cumulative duration of stay of not exceeding 90 days within any 6-month period". I stayed in Thailand for 3 months using a 2 month tourist visa combined with a one month extension I got while I was in Thailand. Now two months later I will be traveling to Thailand again on a 30 day Tourist Visa Exemption stamp, and will extend my stay 15 days at a time using the border crossings. So that is more than 90 days in a 6 month period.

My question, does the 90 day in a 60 month period requirement apply to me, since I read from the Thai embassy that this is a requirement for "foreigners who enter the Kingdom under this Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme may re-enter and stay in Thailand for a cumulative duration of stay of not exceeding 90 days within any 6-month period from the date of first entry ". I however initially used a two month tourist visa and not a tourist visa exemption.

Please help as I will be traveling tomorrow! Thanks!

That requirement is not valid anymore. It was in the past though..

Anyway, I don't think you should have any problem coming for a short visit without visa and get your 30 days visa + Extend your stay 15 days at a time using the border crossings.

If you would like to stay longer you will need to issue a proper Thai visa and you should be able to do it prior your arrival in the Thai consulate in your home country.

*There is no limit on the times you can do border crossings 15 days visa run (Thai visa laws of today. Can change anytime) however it is not a way I would recommend to  do so as its not Financially lucrative and they might tell you after several times doing it just to go and get a visa.

Anyhow, if you DID came without a visa you can issue a proper visa in a neighbouring countries around Thailand. (Laos is the closest).

Give us more details and we can help.

Thanks. The reason I didn't get a 2 month visa this time is that I live in near San Francisco and the embassy is in Washington DC. There is a turn around time of a few weeks after sending off the passport and supporting documents and sometimes it is just too long to wait.
The suggestion about getting a visa in Loas is a good one however.
Cheers
