Muay Boran (a martial art and the original form of Muay Thai or Thai Boxing) Performance in Buri Ram province.
 
Starting with traditional Wai Kru, the traditional dance which must be performed before every Muay Thai or Krabi Krabong fight followed by a combination of Maemai Muay Thai.
Performed by Master Suphan Chabairam, a kru Muay Thai who is one of the best and very unique instructors in Thailand whose passion is in teaching Muay Thai, and Mami Sato, an assistance of Master Suphan and his student, the first and only Japanese who teaches and performs Muay Thai Boran in Thailand.
Muay Thai is not only about fighting, it is a self-defense and is a great exercising, and an art and the culture.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good Muay Thai gym for a farang in Buriram for a few weeks.
After a break of many years, I recently started back to the Gym and it is starting to pay off.  So I wanted to keep it up when i go back to Buriram for a month near Christmas. 
The last time (a few years ago) I tried find somewhere in Buriram, I went to two Muay Thai 'gyms' in the town but the trainers looked very nervous.  My wife explained that I trained for years  and fought many bouts when I was younger  , I just wanted to keep fit  , and I could pay them well  , but they seemed very seemed unsure that it would be a good idea having a farang train with them. 
A friend of mine runs a gym in Jomtien and he doesn't know what their problem is either.
My wife also thinks it might be because looks bad, as this is a sport for poor Thai's not farangs (who ofcourse are all rich), but she knows I don't care about that.
Any (useful) advice welcome.

There is a place to practice muay thai near the government hospital, ask people there and they will direct you.
The place is not too fancy......but they are in business for a very long time.

If you are looking just for a place to exercise, I advice you to try the new Gym in Buriram, near Thep Nakhon hotel. Maybe they have a course there, its a very big place and should be ideal for exercise there, I think they will be opening soon.

Hello Paddyram,
If you are near Panom Rung,
You could check out some of my family as they are very good boxers and could you might be able to train with them, One is my cousin who fought ata very high standard ( Thai TV ) and now gets paid to travel the globe teaching and if he is home at the moment he might beable to help, If not my father in law is the top dog of the amper for a things Muay Thai, He help his belt for 12 fights and is looked up to by all up and comers for miles around.
If you interested just let me know and I'll see if they can help out.

and thanks for the offer but Phanum Rung is a bit of a trek from our place, and in any case my wife's uncle was also a big deal in around their area, and he started showing me a few things last time around
But I couldn't get going with half the village coming to watch me and numerous old men walking up and halting everything telling the uncle that he teaching me wrong, etc., which is why I was looking for a busy gym rather than a single instructor. 
I will try the one by the hospital, I think I know the place.

Any idea why I got such a scared reaction in the gyms last time I wanted to train with them ?

I think they probably were a bit shocked cause we are really in the rural part of Thailand and they just ain't used to seeing Farang boxers, If it was samui or Bangkok  you would have a different reception.
Two winters ago my cousin was trying to get to go to some boxing village cause a farang was fighting and everybody wanted to see him fight (must of been the first farang fighter to go there.
Anyway he won but the night got messy and alot of people got hurt guns and all. lucky I did not go.
I think once you start and they see you know what your doing everyone will want to talk and train with you, it's just a hunch but you know the Thais are a curious bunch.

Good afternoon people.

I will be looking to re open a closed Muay Thai gym in Buriram City.

Plan is to bring western Nak Muays to train in the gym I have experience of this already and work with another gym in Hua Hin.
I am looking for help on costs of a 2 bedroomed apartment, 1 bedroomed apartment, hotel room for 1 month.
Transport links costs of travel from bkk airport to city centre train , taxi bus.
If any one else can think of useful information I should have please let me know.

I can recommend the Siam Orchid Hotel - centrally situate - for 500bt/night. Or depending on funds, Muang Pizza has excellent accommodation for 1200bt/night. You could likely negotiate long term rates at both.

 If you need a very good trainer/boxer I think my cousin has moved back to Buriram he will be well known and he has spent the last few years travelling the globe training, also a Boran champion.
You can find him on Facebook and maybe contact him, or if you are interested and want me to talk to him thats OK.
His name is  Narong Paenprakon. A very cool guy, speaks a good level of English as well.

Hey Guys
Ive looked at the old threads but not seen anything new so I'll start a new thread. Can anybody recommend a farang friendly gym in Buriram I know longer compete but still like to train and spar.    Any recommendations guys.
