Are you talking about the Thai Visa part or what?

As a rule:
If you have enough money you can get a visa.
In Thailand you will need to show 400K Baht if married to a Thai national or 800K Baht if you are over 50 years old.
*Money in Thai bank account on your name only.

Give more details about yourself and your future plans. sawadi

Thanks for the reply , i intend to marry a thai , this year , if one is married , what are the implications of staying in thailand , permanently , are there any books on the subject, from what i have read so far , with tourist visa etc , you cannot stay indefinitely,i have seen farang houses in buriram, and in ban kraut, i presume they are permanents, so there must be a way around it , does one have to cross the border and back in , to get a visa for 3 months, just to stay in the country, any information on this subject would be appreciated.

You get a years Visa in you own country and that usually does involve 'border runs' every 3 months. One month before that first years visa expires, check the requirements for a further 12 MONTH visa 'EXTENSION.' THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE DIFFERENT TO YOUR INITIAL VISA. Border runs are nolonger applicable but you just do a FREE 90 day report to Immigration.

Easiest option if over 50 years old (that requires more funds), is a extention besed on Retirement. Extension due to being married to a Thai needs les money but far more paperwork.

Hope that helps and feel free to ask away!

Admins post is slightly misleading in that he has forgotten to say ,once you are over 50 with 800k in a Thai Bank you can live here on a retirement visa reporting to an Immigration office every 90 days BUT you must arrive here with a 1 year 'O' multi entry visa

All correct, I can't give all Thai Visa requirements as there are many, also need the money to be in the bank for at least 3 months etc etc..

All details in the Thai Visa board:

rufusredtail , Please read all details and if you have any more question or clarifications needed on this matter, we are here to help.

If you have a decent pension or other source of reliable steady income, you do not need to have the money in the bank. Best source of information on Thai visas is Thaivisa.com. It is accurate and up to date.

Should this not be transfered out of the Forum Support section and into the visa section?

You can..........,you get a Double entry tourist visa ( two lots of 60 days ) before you come to Thailand and after 60 days you can extend it for 30 days ( cost 1900 baht ) at the Immigration Office  ,giving you 90 days before you have to go and do your first  board run, extend for 30 days after the next 60 day visa has come to the end giving you 180 days ( six months ) Even us that live here full time have to go to the Immigration office or the  boarder every 90 days  :)

Or get a one year visa before you come to Thailand ,either a retirement Visa or a Visa to meet and stay with family or friends .You will still have to do a boarder run every 90 though !!!!...This can be extended after a year  :)

The free tourist visa was until 31st March 2011.

I haven't found supporting link to this claim so I think its not free anymore.
It was an action of attempt to encourage tourist into Thailand.
