Teaching or other work
« on: March 26, 2011, 03:57:09 AM »
Hi, I have visited Buriram a few times but only briefly to visit my partners family. At the moment I am still in the UK but I'm thinking about staying in Buriram. Last year I obtained my TEFL certificate from Chiangmai university and was wondering what are the teaching opportunities were in Buriram.
Also how large is the ex-pat population?

The expats population is not so big and mostly seasonal, people here mostly splitting their time between their home country to Thailand, depend on their age and income of course.
Teaching job in Buriram, I would also advice you wait for our members who are working as teachers here in Buriram.
I understand the salary is anywhere between 20,000-40,000 Baht a month but I am not sure about that.

Welcome to the Forum, feel free to ask any question you have regarding Buriram or Thailand, there are many experienced members here that might be very helpful.

Hi Ho Silver
Welcome to BE. In the nearby city of Surin they are going through a bit of an upheaval with regards to Farang Teachers.

At the end of this term they have not taken on as many Expat teachers because some of the posts are going through a Thai agency now. That said agency also 'controls' obtaining volunteer overseas teachers and the company get the wages that the unsuspecting visitors, do not take!. I know at least 2 teachers who are looking elsewere (inc Buriram for work).

Good luck, there are some very helpful people here so ask away!

I wouldn't agree with your initial comment Almog,,,although people come & go I would guess at any one time there are around 150 expat farangs within a 25km radius of Nong Ki

I can say with  a degree of confidence that the number is higher now than it was 12 months ago.

Thanks for all the advice. It's good to know that there are quite a few farangs in Buriram!
On my next visit maybe I'll rent a property with the view of staying a few months. Does anyone know the rental values in Amphur muang Buriram?
