Background information:

Luk Nimit:
Luk Nimit are the sacred stones placed at the four corners and cardinal points of an Ubosoth or Bot which is the building used as an ordination hall for monks in Thai Buddhism.
There are actually nine such stones with the ninth and slightly larger stone being placed under the main Buddha image inside the Bot.
The stones, shaped somewhat like cannonballs, are placed under the Bai Sema markers(See explanation below) during a religious ceremony and may be accompanied by other artifacts .
Normally Luk Nimit are not visible since they are covered by the Bai Sema markers, but in this shot taken outside an incomplete Ubosoth at a Thai Wat, the stones are sat waiting to be placed in the incomplete marker posts thus providing a rare photographic opportunity.

Bai Sema:
Bai Sema are markers that are placed around sacred ground that an Ubosoth or Bot (ordination hall) is built on at a Thai temple(Wat).
Usually there are eight markers used and are often surrounded by ornate structures like the Bai Sema shown in todays photograph on the left. The markers are placed at the four corners of the building with intermediate markers half way in between.
Before the Bai Sema is closed a religious ceremony takes place during which Luk Nimit sacred stones are placed inside the markers.
