I got there at 10.00am Friday and it had just closed. Could not get out to do a visa run. I spoke to soldiers and policemen and they were all very relaxed about it. I was taken to the office to see if they would allow me to go. No was the answer.

Can do 90 day reports as this is done on the Thai side.

Any problems call this number 044 147035.

Starman, Thank you for the phone number. love5

another development is that some Thai and Cambodian sellers in Kap Choeng market (On the way to Chong Chom border) temporarily closed their shops as less people are going to the border and market.
Some foreigners choose not to take a risk and go to Thailand-Laos border.

I called today to the border and the officer told me they are open but the situation can change any minute so need to keep listen to the news and call before going to the border.

Thai-Cambodia Border Close as Conflicts Continue-Tan Network 2011-02-08

The Army Region 2 announced last night that the Thai-Cambodian border in some areas will be shut down indefinitely.

The Thai Army Region 2 announced the closure of the Thai-Cambodian border in the areas of Sakaeo, Sisaket, Surin, Trad, and Chanthaburi provinces last night, specifically at the chong jom, prasat ta kway and prasat ta muan tom border points.
Merchants there have been left in a state of uncertainty and are evacuating from the border trade area.

Currently, many stores in the Surin province and Siamrath province are closed, with many schools like the Ban Darn school in the Karb Cherng district shut down as well, with no reopening date set yet. Administrative officers are prepared to evacuate all citizens in the border areas.

Other border points remain open, but have stringent checkpoints in place.

At Poipet ยเปต) border crossing, there has been a large decline in the number of traders and workers entering the popular Rong Kluea market, with roughly 200-300 people coming through per day.

One merchant said she feels uncertain about entering the Rong Kluea market in the early morning, and would want to assess the situation before ordering new products to sell in the area.

In Trad province, the border area is experiencing a large decline in the number of people crossing over to gamble at the famous casino there. Group tours are canceling their trips as well.

For the ports exporting to Cambodia and Vietnam, specifically the Chalalai, Krittawan, and the Kalapangha port, there has been a decline in buying and selling there as well.

Meanwhile, the border at Chanthaburi seems less effected where people are still crossing to buy instant foods and other commodities.

The Game. One has to wonder how long this will last, as many are quasi-dependent on these locals to be open and operating.

Border governors ordered to set up war rooms

SURIN, 8 February 2011 (NNT) – Interior Minister Chavarat Chanvirakul has instructed governors of provinces on the Thai-Cambodian border to set up war rooms to monitor the border situation and hand out assistance to villagers affected by cross-border shellings.

Mr Chavarat on Tuesday chaired a meeting with the governors of Surin, Buri Ram and Sa Kaeo as well as officials from related units in Surin province. He reiterated to the governors of those border provinces to stay alert and set up war rooms to give assistances, both at the provincial and district levels.

The minister also assigned the provincial governors to closely coordinate with the military, monitor news reports provided by coordinators at the community level, warn local residents upon possible spilling-over of clashes, and be prepared for evacuation.

Mr Chavarat ordered all provinces located near the border to establish a self-defense system, with supports from other districts and nearby provinces. He also asked the officials to speedily raise understanding with villagers, take evacuation drills and boost their morale.

The minister later visited local residents gathering at Kap Choeng Witthaya School and gave them survival kits plus his own donation of 100,000 THB through Kap Choeng district office. He also conversed with villagers, telling them to bear with the situation and wait for upcoming peace.

War rooms, indeed. How outstandingly masculine. tired1 This is why we {as human populations} are always in conflict with one another, historically swordfight - war is a real manly man's outreach screwy. Why don't we take a break from the nonsense, and hand the reigns over to the ladies. Civilisation needs a feminine touch.....to be sure. biggreen
