Timing belt cost.
« on: January 18, 2011, 03:07:22 PM »
I just got quotation of 9500 baht for timing belt replacement service!
what is your experience with it? My pick up has done 105,000 kms already and the main dealer garage of Mitsubishi is saying I must do it soon as its about time.
Is it important to do it only in the dealer garage or what? very expensive! loco moneysmile
recommendations on reliable private cheaper garage in Buriram is required.

Timing belt is a very important part of servicing your car and engine so don't wait with the service so long, its true usually need to change timing belt every 100,000 KM or so and the cost is around what they told you, in some cars even more expensive.
I will try and check it for you, there is a garage I think can handle it but not sure about the price.
I will get back to you later on this week.

Good advice.
If a timing belt snaps, it could mean a new engine.

OK,
I have made a fast check on this thing, the thing is like this, The Mitsubishi models have special rubber belt with Teeth which is recommended to do with OEM ORIGINAL parts, this said, the parts are mostly available in Mitsubishi garage dealer place and any attempt to short cut and do it outside will most likely end up with almost the same cost.
Well, you have the option to buy the original parts/kit of the Timing belt for your model in a private shop and save the VAT cost and than go with the parts to Mitsubishi to let them do the installation.
I don't know if they will appreciate it but most likely accept the job and will charge you about 1000+ Baht for the "Kareng"(Job).
I also talked with Thai people doing these jobs in another garage and this was exactly their advice accept the price and pay for original parts and the job cost (1000+ Baht) is not expensive.

Admin thank you so much for your answer and help.
I thought I can save few baht because I remember I did it with a previous car I had but not in this case.....
I guess I will just have to pay the price in the garage, unfortunately I am very short with money right now and it came as a surprise to me. confused1
thanks again.
