Gun Culture in USA

I'm an American and I own several guns/rifles, but it doesn't give me a "buzz".

Care to expound?

I have a permit and carry a weapon (concealed), most times.  In the past 10 or 15 years, it's gotten really crazy here at home....Las Vegas.  The "bad guys" are all armed and using their guns with regularity.  It seems that it's fairly easy to obtain a gun illegally here in the states, regardless of safeguards for legal purchase.  Same as in Thaiand...heh?   

Its says such a lot for Americans that they seem to get 'a buzz' by owning countless guns/rifles

Why do you own several then, are you a hunter that can shoot several at the time, if not, it must be a buzz.

I wouldn't say that it gives me a "buzz".  I do enjoy sport shooting however.

Just like a guy that owns several cars, or various fishing tackle, or model airplanes etc.

Can't shoot them all at once, as they're all locked up in a gun safe unless being used.

BTW (reference to above post), it's my understanding that most local police agencies have left the 9mm program and gone to the .40 S&W caliber handguns.  Same with the "Federal's".


My "kid" is a Federal Officer, and carries a .40 caliber (agency issued).

Not sure  if i see what the problem is with a disliking for shooting as a sport. I believe each to their own.As a teenager i was part of a team that used to compete in leagues / cups but this didnt turn me into anything other than a normal average person. Maybe we should ban shooting sports from the olympics if it is such a redneck activity??? as long as there are safeguards and controls in place and people behave in a responsible manner so what.I dislike the nanny state viewpoint that seems to suggest that i am not responsible enough to look after my own actions.

I have no objection to shooting for sport, in the sense of shooting at targets.  I am against shooting to kill wild creatures as a sport, though I agree it is necessary sometimes to do so to protect domestic animals or to reduce overpopulation (which as often as not has been caused by human interference with the environment).  Where the US seems to have gone wrong is that large numbers of people own guns without any justifiable reason for using them  (self-defence, perhaps, if you live in an isolated spot).  There don't seem to be safeguards and controls in place, and a small proportion of the population can be guaranteed to behave in an irresponsible manner.

Didn't know they had rednecks in the UK. You understand where guns were actually made for? that's why many people don't like them, and maybe it has something to do with abuse off firearms, but mainly nothing good happens when they are around. But if you like to feel like a big tough man, go ahead.

I find it both "fascinating" and "pathetic", that those posting the most venomous remarks on the subject, are foreigner's to the USA.  And the laws governing such in America, have absolutely no effect on them whatsoever.   (??)

I do have the use of a gun here BUT I have never fired it & would only do so if my life was under threat.......It certainly doesn't give me 'The American Buzz'
