I would say to protect yourself and your family is adequate justification.  If you catch someone in your house, you confront him/her and rather than run away they go for you, then its you or them, so f'@#k them they're dead.   I would consider the 'line' to be when yours or your families life is at risk.  I don't have a gun for that reason and personally, I would probably go for my hurley or a baseball bat first if it was just one intruder or whatever.  If a guy broke into my house, he would just be very unlucky that I was armed (Gun ownership is very scarce in my country).  But I would have no hesitation killing someone to protect my family and I wouldn't cry for him afterward either.

It has been reported that a 380 to the cranial cavity of a treehugger (very small target) will end their demonstration.   I personally prefer the shotgun birdshot method, their screams are better.

Got this today.  What is really amazing is that during the fall season in America, there are litterally millions of armed men in the woods, and very few people killed there.

I had never thought about this....

        A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of
states and arrived at a striking conclusion:
       
        There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of
Wisconsin .
       
        Allow me to restate that number.
       
        Over the last several months, Wisconsin 's hunters became the eighth
largest army in the world.
       
        More men under arms than in Iran .
       
        More than in France and Germany combined.
       
        These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt
with firearms, and no one was killed.
       
        That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods
of Pennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters,all of whom have now
returned home.
       
        Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally
establishes the fact thatthe hunters of those four states alone would
comprise the largest army in the world.The point?
       
        America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of
home-grown firepower.
       
        Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of
national security.

disarmed.

When I lived in Ireland I used to go shooting mainly  rabbits, pigeons, ducks, and owned a 12 bore db shotgun.

I emptied the lead out of a couple of cartridges and filled them with coarse salt just in case anyone tried to break in.
