The Ashes
« on: December 07, 2010, 02:02:54 PM »
Hi, Adam, Tommynew, and Nookie... and any other cricket fans.  Since our normal channel of communication about the failings of the Aussies is temporarily suspended, I thought I'd better follow Adam's suggestion and start a cricket channel here.  Who knows, maybe it'll stay here, Admin.!

I came home from my morning walk today intentionally early, as I didn't want to miss all the cricket.  One wicket had fallen the moment I switched on, and two more went in the next three balls!  I was just in time.

For the next Test (on the 16th) Katich is out already, North is certain to go, Doherty may well follow, and what about the fast bowlers?  We seem to have them well and truly on the run.  If only we could get rid of the man we all love to hate, Ponting!

Ponting makes a good punching-bag.....

Keep them or change them, what's the difference?  Unless they come up with a new Shane Warne, for example.

Great fightback by Australia, especially Johnson and Hussey (though he's been on form throughout the Tests).  So to Boxing Day at the MCG.

Ricky's Mum and Dad live down the road from me. They play golf. So does Ricky.....he plays off scratch and could earn a motza on the golfing circuit. God knows why he sticks with Cricket!
Don't write Australia off. The teams failure in my opinion comes from the selectors NOT the Captain. Unfortunately the Skipper does not have a deciding vote on the players. Punter is working on David Boon ( current selector) to allow the Captain more leeway in selection.
Cheers,

Interesting post, John.  Of course I want England to win... born within a mile of a county cricket ground, and watched cricket since I was 9 (my first day at a match saw India score 533-3 decl. against Sussex, all four men making tons), but what I like best is a real ding-dong battle, with good cricket on both sides.  Australia seem to have been a mess since Gilchrist, Warne etc, retired, although Punter has always had the reputation of being a good captain as well as a top-class bat.  I'm particularly glad to see Hussey come back to life... when he appeared on the scene in 2006 (I think) he was so good, but he's been in eclipse for the past two years.

Congratulations to the Okkers for fighting back, it makes the last 2 tests much more interesting. For a moment there it was looking like they were down and out, then they come back with a stunning performance, hats off to them.

Although I trap off, like Mike I am a cricket fan and the biggest story of the week was not this one, but Sachin Tendulkars 50th test century......WOW!! redman

All set for MCG.................... knuppel2 C'MON ENGLAND!!

Tendulkar made his 50 centuries in 175 tests;  next come Ponting with 39/151, Kallis with 38/143.  Compare Bradman with 29/52.  It rather puts the moderns in perspective!

Yes, Grandad.

You don't get the likes of Malcolm Nash bowling to the likes of Gary Sobers any more !

Happylarry will be calling me 'greatgrandad' soon.  I've watched Bradman...  indeed I've seen him make a 100... and believe me, he was amazing.  I've never seen anyone who could find the gaps in the field the way he could.
