March 27, 2011 by joesaward

The FIA has announced that the two Saubers have been excluded from the results of the Australian GP because the rear wings were found to be in breach of Article 3.10.1 and 3.10.2 of the Technical Regulations, which relate to the radius of the curvature of the three rear wing elements. As far as we can ascertain the problem offered no real performance advantage but was simply an oversight by the team,  buttslap  which they admitted was an error. Unfortunately, rules are rules and the two cars were excluded. This means that Felipe Massa moves up from ninth to seventh, with Sebastien Buemi now eighth and the two Force Indias picking up points for ninth and 10th, which means that Scotland’s Paul di Resta scores a point on his F1 debut.

Sauber has announced its intention to appeal against the exclusion of its two cars from the Australian GP. boxingguy

Vettel pips Hamilton to Sepang pole

By Matt Beer    Saturday, April 9th 2011, 09:09 GMT

Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, Malaysian denied Lewis Hamilton pole position for the Malaysian Grand Prix in an extremely close battle at Sepang.

Hamilton had held provisional pole early in Q3 with a 1m35.000s lap, which put the McLaren a tenth clear of Vettel's Red Bull at that stage.

The Briton then improved to 1m34.974s on his final run, but Vettel managed to dig deeper still, producing a 1m34.870s to maintain his 100 per cent pole rate for 2011 - although the margin of 0.104 seconds was far tighter than in Australia.

Mark Webber was 0.309s off team-mate Vettel's pace in third, and 0.021s ahead of Jenson Button in the second McLaren.

That quartet had the pole fight to themselves, with the rest of the frontrunners a long way off the pace and without enough soft tyres to do more than one Q3 run.

Fernando Alonso led this 'best of the rest' group in fifth for Ferrari, with his team-mate Felipe Massa seventh.

Both Renaults made it to Q3 despite the team's tough start to the weekend. Nick Heidfeld put his Melbourne misery behind him with sixth on the grid, while Vitaly Petrov took eighth.

Mercedes' Nico Rosberg pipped Kamui Kobayashi's Sauber for ninth.

For the second race in a row, Michael Schumacher missed out on a Q3 spot and will start 11th - this time after his Mercedes team-mate Rosberg's late improvement knocked him out.

Neither Toro Rosso reached Q3 at Sepang, Sebastien Buemi recovering from losing a large chunk of sidepod bodywork (the retrieval of which required a brief red flag) in Q1 to qualify just ahead of team-mate Jaime Alguersuari in 12th.

The Force Indias were 14th and 17th, with Paul di Resta outqualifying Adrian Sutil again. They sandwich Rubens Barrichello, on a disappointing day for Williams, and Melbourne hero Sergio Perez, whose Sauber was only 16th today.

Though neither of its cars got out of Q1, there was great encouragement for Lotus as Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli got within half a second of Williams - Pastor Maldonado joining them in an early exit - and beat the Virgins by two seconds. And Hispania had cause for celebration too: Tonio Liuzzi and Narain Karthikeyan made the 107 per cent qualifying cut very comfortably in Q1.

Ok dudes

2nd practice times ~~~~~~~~~

Vettel fastest again in China practice

By Pablo Elizalde    Friday, April 15th 2011, 07:33 GMT

Sebastian Vettel went fastest in the second practice session for the Chinese Grand Prix, the Red Bull driver leaving little doubt he remains the favourite for the Shanghai race.

Vettel, who was also quickest in the morning, posted a best time of 1m37.688s, but this time he was followed closely by the McLarens of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton less than three tenths behind the world champion.

Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher showed promising form in the Mercedes, the Germans winding up fourth and fifth - less than half a second off the pace.

Felipe Massa was again the fastest Ferrari driver with the sixth quickest time.

Team-mate Fernando Alonso finished in 14th position having been unable to do much running due a hydraulic problem in his Ferrari. The Spaniard managed to return to action late in the session, completing a run with soft tyres but without using his DRS.

Hamilton and Button showed they had pace in store after their discreet showing in FP1, both going quicker right away at the start of the second session. They exchanged positions a few times before Button moved to the top with a 1m39.431s just 10 minutes into the session.

Ten minutes later it was Rosberg moving to the top of the times, becoming the second man alongside Vettel to lap in the 1m38s. Williams's Pastor Maldonado was also among the frontrunners at the start of the session after deciding to use the softer tyre compound, the Venezuelan the first man to do so.

Massa went quickest around the 30-minute mark also using soft tyres, the Brazilian posting the best time of the weekend until that moment - 1m38.570s.

Rosberg regained the top spot minutes later with his maiden run with the soft tyres, the Mercedes driver the first man to move into the 1m37s.

Team-mate Schumacher jumped to second place - also with a run on softs - when nearing the one-hour mark, the seven-time champion less than two tenths behind Rosberg.

A couple of minutes later, Hamilton retook first place, with Button going second as the McLaren duo tried the soft tyres for the first time. The former reported after his flying lap that his tyres were "finished".

McLaren's domination did not last long however, with Vettel flying to the top spot with a 1m37.688s just a moment later.

Nick Heidfeld had another difficult session following his crash in the morning, the German making contact with the barrier again after skidding off track at Turn 12.

He managed to keep the engine going and returned to the track with no front wing, but was forced to stop before reaching the pits. He was later pushed back into the pits by his mechanics and the German could return to action for the last 25 minutes.

Force India's Paul di Resta also had a difficult afternoon, the Briton's car affected by a fuel pressure problem that meant he was unable to complete any running.

HRT's Tonio Liuzzi completed just one timed lap after succumbing to a car problem in the first session. He managed to join the track at the very end, but still outpaced the Virgin cars.

Virgin driver Timo Glock was hit by problems again, and although he managed more running than in the morning, the German still lost valuable time in the pits and finished his session early.

fastest again in F1 final practice in China
Published: 16/04/2011 at 12:31 PM
Bangkok Post: Online news: Asia

Germany's reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel led the field in final practice for Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix with the Red Bull driver eclipsing his rivals late in the session.

The 23-year-old, who has been fastest all weekend, clocked a time of one minute 34.968 seconds in the final minutes of Saturday's practice session.

Vettel, who is aiming to be the first driver in seven years to take pole at the first three races of the season, finished two tenths of a second ahead of Briton Jenson Button's McLaren.

Button's team mate and fellow Briton Lewis Hamilton was two tenths of a second further back in third place.

Championship leader Vettel's fellow countryman Nico Rosberg of Mercedes was in fourth.

In contrast, Vettel's Red Bull team-mate Australian Mark Webber was left fuming after finishing the session only 15th fastest owing to an electrical fault with his car.

Ferrari drivers double champion Spaniard Fernando Alonso and Brazilian Felipe Massa were fifth and sixth quickest respectively followed by Russian Vitaly Petrov of Renault.

Force India driver German Adrian Sutil was in eighth ahead of his countryman and seven times champion Michael Schumacher in the second Mercedes, while Rookie Briton Paul di Resta in the second Force India was 10th fastest.

If Vettel, who leads the standings after wins in Australia and Malaysia, takes pole Saturday he would become the first driver to start at the front of the grid in the season's opening three races since Schumacher in 2004.

2011 Chinese Grand Prix

Well I reckon a few people are mega disappointed after thinking they had the race in the bag ~~~ Rosberg was surprised to inherit the lead with 5 sec plus advantage only to loose it in the same fashion. Jenson had his brain in neutral when entering the pits and obviously can't tell the difference between Red Bull & Macca livery.  buttslap But must say a great drive by Lewis whilst Monobrow succeeded in excelling at mediocrity. Love it!
