Yes sir. You need the same paper work that you used for the 1 year and then the 5 year license  again. No Change.

Thought it may be worth providing an update having obtained car and bike driving permits today. I am living in Lam Plait Mat so went to the Local Police Station to obtain letter of residence. Officers on duty were friendly and willing however the hand written document they produced was not acceptable at the Land Transport Centre so I had to make a further visit to Buriram Police Station who provided the Letter of Residence within 30 minutes. 3 copies.....price 'Up to You'.

Process at Land Transport Centre was then pretty straightforward and painless. I think I was pretty lucky and was in and out in about 40 minutes.

I needed 3 copies so gave 300 baht which h seemed pleased with. First time for me so have no idea if I was over or under generous.

I always leave it up to the wife when it comes to "tea money"
She usually hands the officer concerned in Buriram police station 100 Bht and
he is always happy to see us and gets on with our requests pretty swiftly.

In Phutthaisong there is an office close to the hospital along the road to Phayakkhaphum Phisai. If there is any in "Phayak" I don't know.
As far as I remember you need your passport, your old drivers licence, your wife with identification card and housebook (If you have your own yellow book bring that too).
I found this on the net  "Any driver who wishes to renew their 5 year Thai driving license will also need to attend a one hour ‘refresher’ lecture in order to bring them up to speed with the new curriculum. " I guess you will have to watch a video or something like that.

Thanks for that. I was hoping I could do in Buriram because my birthday is tomorrow the 6th and I will be there on Friday 7th and although I know I basically have a year from expiry date it would be convenient.

We did our renewals this morning of our original 1 year licenses, and got 5 year licenses.  My licenses (Auto & Motorcycle) had expired yesterday.  TW still had a few days validity on hers.  That didn't seem to matter.  This was in Prakhon Chai.

TW just needed her old license and ID card.  Neither of us had to attend the 1 hour meeting but everyone renewing a 5 year license did.  We both did color blindness, reaction speed, depth perception and peripheral vision tests.

I had to provide the following:
My 2 expired licenses
Original Passport
2 sets of photocopies of picture page and all stamped pages in passport.
Medical certificate and a copy
2 photocopies of TW's Tabien Bahn, probably because it was referenced in the letter below.
A letter from the Amphur verifying my address and a photocopy.  The asked for a letter from immigration but I said they weren't doing them anymore and they accepted the letter from the Amphur.
All photocopies had to be signed by me, except TW signed her Tabien Bahn copies.

They returned the passport.  Auto license 600 Baht, Motorcycle 460 Baht. They''re valid for 5 years from your next birthday, which gives TW an extra several months but my birthday is next month.  Oh well.

A friendly bunch works there, and joked around with everyone during the testing to keep it light.

Recommend you scan a copy, email it to yourself and put it in a folder.  Also save it on a flash drive.  When you go back the next time to the police station take a copy with you so the police know you have already been finger printed.

Those prices that you are mentioning are a total for 2 of each, right?

I wonder if the Thai police would bother to dig out a file that will be 5 years and 1 month old to check for finger prints? Always a good idea to keep copies but probably in vain in this example.
