icon_latest We are awfully sorry TBWG did not volunteer to be a team member this year. We could have tried forcing him, but we did not. He is such a nice bloke and he would have entered against his own will. Because we would be sure to loose the race without him (with him we would loose as well   :D bananadance) we have decided not to enter in this years race. For all great efforts in the past years we would like to thank TBWG as well as all other team members and offer them an exclusive boat ride during the opening ceremony of this years Satuk Boat Race on Saturday 6th November.
Like the RBWG from BKK who has himself rowed down Chao Phraya river annually, now TBWG can enjoy the thrills of being rowed by 50 Thai oarsmen down Moon river.

This invitation is open for all farang who are visiting and would not want to miss this exclusive opportunity. Please book your boat ride with Mueanfun asap.  iconurgent You dont want to miss this.
See ya'll there  party4

Hi Bums

Not Surprised, those elephants hate it even when the water is lower and not flowing fast.

In the past they have had farangs swimming across in a race with the elephants, one guy who was foolish enough to be downstream of them in the race  said he was petrified by the animals panicking and the look of sheer terror in their eyes.

So a sensible move to cancel it. happy2

PS:  In the video about the 1min 30 + mark is the fun smile farang team in glorious full flow action!! character4

Tourists are applying in droves to attend the country's first mahout training school after the Tourism Authority of Thailand recognised its contribution to eco-travel with an award.

The school, located at the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre in Lampang's Hang Chat district, is the first institute in Thailand to train amateur mahouts, both Thais and foreigners.

The director of the centre which operates the school, Worrawit Rothjanaphaithoon, said the facility had received 240 booking requests from foreign tourists last month, which was the highest number of bookings this year.

He attributed the increased interest to the spotlight shone on the school when the TAT awarded it its 8th Thailand Tourism Award.

The conservation-oriented award was given as part of World Tourism Day on Sept 27 and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the TAT.

Mr Worrawit said the school had produced many amateur mahouts since it opened seven years ago. The government has given the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre 80 million baht to build learning and academic research centres on the elephant.
