Classic Cars/Bikes in Thailand/Buriram.
« on: June 04, 2010, 09:00:08 PM »
This is the new section for classic cars, motorcycles, trucks & competition cars.

Please add classic car/bike you own or have seen in buriram province or anywhere in Thailand.

Is it possible to insure Classic cars? Where?

All cars, trucks and bikes welcome! Classic Cars, Hot Rods, Lowriders, Motorcycles!

Here is a classic but common to see VESPA bike I have photo today in Buriram town. vespa013

I have seen several classic or just very old cars around Buriram, it amaze me everytime to see how they restore and keep using the car almost on regular basis.
I know for an example, a mechanic work in Nissan garage have an amazing small sport Nissan car he take care with big love, all plastic dash is in good condition and more features he added to the car.
I love to see these things.
These cars are registered with "Tabian" (car license plate) and allowed to be on the road all day long.
*Not same as in Europe and most developed countries where there are certain restrictions on driving the car on certain hours due to safety issues.

Classic Cars / Vehicle Roadworthiness in Thailand

Cars older than seven years and motorbikes older than five years need to undergo a safety inspection every year and be issued with a document called a TorRorOr that certifies the vehicle is roadworthy. No reminder is issued but without the TorRorOr it is not possible to get the annual tax sticker once the car is over seven years old.

Hi,

Does anyone know of a good private TorRorOr inspection provider?

I want a good inspection for my money, so I can know my car is safe.

I understand the DLT do this, but I want a private company.

Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Kind Regards
T

One option is to go to the main dealer garage of the car you want to buy/have already
(may it be Isuzu,Toyota,Mitsubishi, etc).

Whenever I buy a car I do a full inspection of brakes and all the other things in the main dealer's garage and if needed replace it with original parts only.

I have an experience with chinese auto parts and its just not worth it, the saving is not so big and you better buy original as the reliability and mostly the product will last longer time (new or second hand in good condition).

Also, in Thailand the saving when servicing the car on a "street garage" is not that much saving comparing to servicing properly the car in a certified car garage who knows every srew driver and the time to change parts in the car.

Its also comes to a very point you mention, SAFETY. never play with safety. Its just not worth it.

Just my point of view. drivinggear

A nice bike a guy in Buriram city just bought, he saying this bike is 200cc and costed him 86,000 Baht all together.
I saw this bike and really think its good value for money for a new bike and it is very impressive one as well.
