I have done this about eight years ago and still use the water from that well. Once all is done and installed it only costs the electricity to pump the water. But make sure that you test the water before it is used for domestic purposes. Things like pH and mineral content and coli forms (bacteria) are important to know. Water test kits are available at HomeMart and a couple of places in town too. Of course you can always run the water through a purifier if you wanted to drink it.

I'm looking for advice on anything to do with underground water if anyone can be so kind

I've been told that the cost of this is approx 16000 baht which includes a pump worth around 10000 baht
At the moment no one is available to carry out this work in our village (close to ban kruat), would anyone have any suggestions of who can do it?

Also, are there any known issues with making and having underground water?

That's what I thought first, but the man who made the well told me to buy the pumps and the tank myself were I wanted so it would only be more work for him for his 3000 Baht, maybe he has stocks .

Bought a "pressure demand" pump from a hardware shop in Prakhon Chai around 4 years ago.  Cost was around  8500 baht.  (still running OK)

The shopkeeper called the "well diggers", and within 2 hours they were busy drilling away at my place.  Took them around 6 hours and down to 55m to finally get there.  Cost was around 5000 baht, including pump installation and wiring.  Later had a cage and concrete platform added for the pump, around 800 baht.

Good info guys, they are about to make a well in my missus house too and told me its about 11000 bath whit pump and plumbing (dont know what size) , so i guess its ok price if the budget holds... I dont know who does the work though.

Update... hole drilled and pump and elektrics fitted, but plumbing did not include. How much does the pvc pipe cost per meter?

Can anybody advise me if the water brought up from underground into our storage tank should be treated in anyway?
What is this water suitable for?

Also, would one pump suffice for the drawing up and feed to the house?
My wife seems to think that we need two

Interesting question, I think I see in home mart kits to check water quality and this way you can know if you need a water filter to keep it clean (most probably YES).
I think 1 water pump is enough.
