Buriram Driving School
« on: March 10, 2010, 07:30:00 AM »
After letting to ladyboss put life at risk on two wheels the past few years, I have decied to take the plunge and temp fate by allowing her to put my life at risk on four wheels.  Before I unleash her on the streets of Buriram, though, I'd like to send her to driving school. I recall in the past someone mentioning to me that there is a good driving school in Muang Buriram. Does anyone have the contact information for the school or have any idea of what the costs are?

Try first in the transportation office.
They teach how to drive and issue driving licences there.
I'm sure they have the qualified driving teachers.

I was able to locate a suitable driving instructor. Her name is name is Khun Pad and her phone number is
087-8743169.  Offhand I believe the price was 3000 baht for seven, two-hour lessons.  The wife was very happy with the instructor and the course.  The lessons seem to be have been of some benefit, but I would still recommend staying out of the path on any oncoming Toyota Yaris you see headed your way.

Instruction is available for both automatic and manual. I believe the manual was an old pickup and the automatic was a slightly less old Honda.

Jim, if you decide to go with the instructor I mentioned above I would suggest you try to have Pad do the instruction and not her boyfriend. I sent one of the nieces there in December. Although she thought Pad's boyfriend was a good instructor, she didnt think he was as patient as Pad. Also, track the hours of the lessons. My neice was such a terrific student and wonderful driver they shortened the course by three of the fourteen hours, with no discount. Needless to say she failed the exam when the Pad's boyfriend took her and he would not stay for her to take it twice. Another trip would have cost another 1000 baht so I had the pleasure of taking her back a few days later. She managed to fail two more times in a row before she finally was able to pass.

If this is for your wife or girlfriend I would also suggest picking up a copy of a driving manual and having her begin studying that prior to starting classes. Its available at 7-11.
