Denied 30 days extension / Tourist visa
« on: November 26, 2009, 11:44:00 AM »
Yesterday me and my girlfriend for the past 12 years went to Chock Chai (Korat) immigration to extend my tourist visa with 30 days. I deliver my application, passport, passportcopys and a picture. This was not enough for the lady behind the counter. She asks for a copy of my girlfriends ID. We gave her a copy. Then she asked for a prof of my adress in Surin. I could not give her that because there is not written in the visa-rules that you need a prof of your permanent adress to extend your tourist visa. I ended up with a extension of only 7 days. I wonder if anybody has experienced the same as I did. I browsed the Immigration website last night and found nothing about their "permanent adress prof"

Every case is looked at on its merits and each Immigration Office also seem to have different rules. crazydance
Can you not provide a copy rental agreement or Tabien Baan?  confused6
I know a few of these Immigration Personell as friends and suggest you telephone to establish a way to overcome your imminent departure.  wave1

Next time I will show them a photocopy of my rental agreement. This was a last minute extension, so I did not have time to provide it. Thx. for the advice. :)

Always happy to help a fellow Expat. We would be sorry to see you go  biggrin1
Have you replaced your black Phantom, Lazerlab? If so, you should have joined us last week on the run to Srisaket.

Pattaya Immigration have required proof of address when doing your 90 day reporting for the last couple of years.

Maybe thats because they have such a transigent customerbase? Nookie

I just did a 90 day report and extension of stay at the new Korat office. They did not want proof of Residence for the 90 day, but did for the extension to stay?  confused6

Also for those that use a bank letter for your extension to stay, make sure all the date of the letter, book update, all are the same. I had to go to a local branch there to get a new letter and a new update in the book.  brick1

I had to face the same probleme last november when I went in Chok Chai from Buriram.

I have been asked for my wife's tabienban that was not in my possession. I asked what if I were staying in a hotel and traveling all over the realm.

The reply was it was ok if I was ableto give them a receit from my hotel.

I went 1 mille away in what seems to be the only Chok Chai hotel to take a room I never used ; back to the office 15 minutes later I had no problems to get a 1 month extension.

I diiid iiiiit thaiiiii wayyyy.

Wonder if it would help to add a purple persuader to the documentation?

Yes it is wrong, but if it eliminates hassle, seems worth it to me.
