Northeastern tourism gets lively

BANGKOK: -- (NNT) – TAT's event, ‘Issan Revisit 2010’ held in late January was successfully launched with high booking value, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Khon Kaen Branch’s Governor, Nopparat Kokwahn.

Mr Nopparat said the travel packages were reserved by a number of international tourist groups, claiming 45 more groups higher than expected. The tour packages were booked at a total of four million THB value on the first day of the event, mostly by Indian tourists.

The most popular travel packages are Bangkok- Nakhon Ratchasima, the northeastern province of Thailand with several offered attractions such as Chok Chai Farm and Petrified Wood Museum. Customers were mostly Malaysian, Indian and Vietnamese families who expected family activities abroard during holidays.

Meanwhile, Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani route were also highly booked. The tours to the Sanctuary of Truth as well as the visits to the scented candles production and Ban Song Yae Catholic Church were most favorite with Singaporean tourists. Moreover, travel companies from Hong Kong showed interest in group tours to the romantic Chiangkhan District, Phra That Sri Songrak Pagoda and Phi Ta Khon Museum of Loei Province.

TAT has declared 2008-2010 as the years of tourism for the northeastern Thailand under the theme ‘the Cradle of Learning and Civilization’. This year TAT will specifically emphasize on the area of marketing of tourism products. Thus, all strategies will highlight marketing promotion.
