How safe are these Ubon-Pattaya buses
« on: February 04, 2010, 07:19:12 PM »
Another Pattaya-Ubon bus is in a serious accident between Lamplaimat & Buriram, this time killing all 5 people in the car it hit. That's 2 on this stretch of road in 3 months & there was another one on the 'new' dual carriageway coming out of the mountains on the 304 3 months prior to that.ALL 3 belong to Sri Mongkol  who are based on the 304 not far out of Korat......Thay have 20 new double deckers which ply the route but also a few older type coaches. It is these older type that have been involved in all 3 accidents....Just how safe are they, they go like the wind,I've followed some of them & they can sit steady at 140 kms/hr,,,,the problem is they don't slow down when its wet!!!!!!!!!

I understand you read the buriram news..  boatsailing
 http://www.buriramexpats.com/buriram-news/

Accident always happan and can't predict them, but at least we can drive more carefully and minimize the risk.
I tell you from my own experience and as a caution move I try to avoid driving on night time in Thailand as the roads in some places are not good and there are no lights on the side of the roads.
I think its irresponsible and do the opposite other than preventing accidents.
There have to be some budget somewhere in order to save many dear lives being taken every year.

I do indeed read the Buriram news,,,,but I didn't see any mention of the bus/car accident.........
I think a lot of these accidents are caused by driver fatigue.....These Ubon-Pattaya buses have the same driver for the whole journey, they do not change over in Korat or anywhere else,,,,so they are driving for at least 12 hours a day,,,,The following day they do the trip in reverse,,,,,no driving hour restrictions whatsoever

Usually in long journey there are 2 drivers exchanging between them.If not, I think it may be illegal as well.

*The news about the accident is in the archives of January 2010  http://www.buriramexpats.com/buriram-news/buriram-news-january-2010/
