Thai response teams ready for New Years

Emergency response team dispatched for New Year Festival

BANGKOK, 20 December 2009 (NNT) – More than 7,000 units of emergency response teams will be deployed to give urgent aid to the victims of car accidents in both main and minor roads during the New Year Festival, according to the Emergency Medical Institute of Thailand (EMIT).

Emergency Medical Institute of Thailand Secretary-General Chatree Charoencheevakul stated that, during the New Year Festival every year, EMIT had kept a close watch and also prepared intensified safety measures to assist people facing car accidents. Noticeably, the number of car accidents from last year had been two times higher than usual, 80% of which were motorcycle accidents.

Dr Chatree said that EMIT in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, Civil Disaster Defense and all related agencies had targeted reducing the number of casualties by 5% this year by dispatching about 7,000 units of the emergency response team to assist and approach the victims with an instant action.

Dr Chatree suggested all car users that the best way to prevent road accidents was to drive with caution and to follow the traffic laws. If road accidents are found, please contact the emergency hotline at 1669.
