Thai youth triumph at International Snow Sculpture Contest
BANGKOK (NNT) – Four Thai students are congratulated by the Ministry of Education after winning the first prize at an international snow sculpture contest.
The team, consisting of Mr Visanu Phovichien, Mr Rungchai Suknet, Mr Chakkrit Pewchan, and Mr Ruengritdej Songkwan, has won “The 2010 Harbin International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest†which was held in the city of Harbin, People’s Republic of China. The students come from different vocational colleges in Bangkok, Saraburi and Surat Thani. Accompanied by their coaches, the students paid a courtesy call on Deputy Minister of Education Narisara Chavaltanpipat who presented them with gifts and encouraged them to keep up the effort.
Running in the competition were 33 teams from 8 countries namely Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, China, and Thailand. The winning sculpture, “Vayupak†(a character from Ramayana epic), of the Thai team not only picked the first prize but also grabbed the popular vote award. It was the first time Thailand had joined in the contest.
