Local pickup truck sales in July recovered for the first time in 14 months, according to Toyota Motor Thailand, the compiler of the industry figures.

Pickup sales rose 4.5% year-on-year, the first improvement since June of last year when diesel was 44 baht a litre, against 29 baht now.

However, passenger car sales, which had been propping up the industry fell 9.1% year-on-year in July, the third consecutive month of decline, as consumers wait for new models. Car sales last year rose because of the good response to cheap E20-compatible cars.

Toyota said the recovery trend of overall vehicle sales started in April as the decline eased to 27.4% year-on-year, followed by a 26.2% drop in May and 13.4% in June.

In July, overall sales dropped only 3.6% year-on-year to 43,156 units, but the seven-month figure was still down 25% to 274,584 units.

It will just increase the already very large selections of 'repossessions' passing thro the Auctions.

Yes, It's amazing how some thais running after new car models while paying a very small "Down payment" leaving them with a very high Installment to follow up and pay.
Most of the installment amount are huge in Thai average income standards and most varied betwen 7,000-12,000 Baht a month ! for 4-6 years !!
