Hi

The fact that it is in English I assume that it is aimed at farangs helping farangs.

Not sure what to think and must admit I was unaware that Buriram had any tourist police. But I suppose with the increasing farang population it is logical.

Yes i Know i about this, because of the number of foreigners (farangs) coming to Buriram province (residents as well as tourists is growing0. The official tourist police is now setting up this force.

So i would ask you is it better to protect your interests on your own or in strength of numbers and unity?

Many owners of busineses and properties working together with common goals and to be helped by the tourist police for all problems.

I would really like to get involved with this. Just such a pity that I won't be available to attend at the time. But if there is any information that comes out of this seminar, I would like to hear about it. Please keep us updated.

I suppose that tourist polices are always thai people not farang. It was big suprise for me that one of my thai friend in Buriram is volunteer tourist police. I have met that man many times and we newer have talked about tourist polices. Last time when I was in Buriram he came to met me and my wife in railway station ... as usually... but that time he used uniform ! Anyway he helped us to carry our heavy bag to the train !

No, Tourist Police are not always Thai, they also have Foreigners (Farangs)! Now that the Tourist Police have the Tourist Police station based in Buriram they are now looking for Foreigners to help out other Foreigners. The Tourist Police Station 2 based in Buriram City will cover a large area (Buriram Province with places like NangRong, Praconchai, Ban Kruat, La Han Soi, Nongki and  also will cover the area of Surin Province).

They need a lot of Foreigners to have everything covered.

The local Amphur Police in the Buriram area have this year been interviewing most foreigners living in the area. Strange therefore that the "Tourist Police" have not apparently liaised with the main Police, and obtained names and addresses so that they could send out invitations to the seminar direct.

How many will turn up? Is it just for those in Muang Buriram, or for the whole of Buriram province?

Might be a bit embarrassing if just 7 is present to be welcomed by the Governor!

Lets have a show of hands of the locals who intend turning up

It is a shame that nobody in Buriram can provide any further info on this upcoming seminar.

Since the details are provided in English, one must assume it is intended just for the farangs. But will the Police have a sufficient grasp of the English language to be able to conduct a full day seminar? The English of many tourist police in Pattaya is pretty poor.  Will those of us attending be considering leaving after the first coffee break, or will we perhaps hang on for the lunch - hopefully free!

And will the Governor of Buriram who will be opening the seminar speak in English? if not why bother!

Only 2 days to go. Anyone proposing to go? Please state your intentions

Dear HappyinIsaan,

To answer your questions regarding more information about upcoming seminar. I think the form added by the admin explains a lot on what to expect. And for your question about the area that is covered by the Tourist Police Buriram. This was answered in older mail as you can read in this forum:
The Tourist Police Station 2 based in Buriram City will cover a large area (Buriram Province with places like NangRong, Praconchai, Ban Kruat, La Han Soi, Nongki and  also will cover the area of Surin Province)..

hoping to have you informed.

My main point was who and how many people will turn up.

If the Tourist Police area covers the whole of the province, it seems remarkable that all those people living outside Muang Buriram (and most of these do not subscribe to this forum) will know nothing of this seminar. The Police soon know where to find you when you have committed an offence!

Now, if as in elections, they had sent out their canvassers handing out "purple ones", the hotel might be full to overflowing

It will be rather embarrassing if there are just a handful of us present tomorrow.

Dear Foreigners,

Due to the latest situation in Sisaket province with the temple near Cambodia.
All Tourst Police in the South-East Isaan province have to go to support the foreigners living in Sisaket and provide any help if wanted.

So the Seminar on 22th at Tephnakorn Hotel Buriram has been suspended to a later unknown date. We will keep you informed on the new date !!!

We apologize for the current situation but we were told just today by Bangkok at 14.00 hours.

wit best Regards,

Tourist Police Station 2, sub-Division 3 Tourist Police Division (Buriram). biggrin1
