What is the purpose of obtaining a yellow book.  Is it a foreign owners certificate or a proof of residence certificate?  Is it something one needs for retirement visa?

Thanks in advance.

It may accepted (in some cases) as proof of residence, when buying a motorcycle or car in your own name or applying for a driving license or when trying to open a bank account. I say "in some cases" as I have read elsewhere of it not being acceptable, depending on the agency handling the transaction. A yellow book is not proof of ownership of anything. It is not "required" for a retirement visa but it "may" be accepted as proof of residence. The requirements for getting the yellow book vary from amphur to amphur. One of the requirements of my amphur in Nongki want a letter from my embassy stating that I am living at my house in Nongki. I didn't bother getting one as I only need to prove where I live when I apply for an extension of stay (I use a copy of wifes blue book & id card) and when I apply for 5 year driving license renewals (certificate of residence from immigration).
