I'm not quite sure of the connection between your thoughts and my post.

I guess you are suggesting lack of world wide education in Thai schools. That I would agree with. There seems to be a lack of general knowledge out side of what happens in Thailand. I have found this out when speaking to my nieces and nephews, also my wife's siblings. However, it is something that could be improved within our own families by showing some great moments in history or even personal experiences of our lives and what we've seen. The moon landings were your example. We should remember, there are many people around the world that believe it didn't happen. I wonder how many people under the age of 50, when asked, would be able to name more than one astronaut, Neil Armstrong , or the year it happened? I know of British people that have never even heard of the Falkland Islands or Margaret Thatcher. !!!

Then we have superstition. Sure some Thais, especially those living in village environments, are more superstitious than those in the western world. It is, however, part of their culture and something that goes back many years and to their ancestry which is usually not Thai. I tend not to mock it however much I disagree. My grandmother would avoid walking under ladders, would throw salt over her shoulder if she spilt some. I know Brits who keep their fingers crossed, get worried when the break a mirror, see a black cat or a single magpie. Superstition is all around us. Most of it ludicrous but at the same time should not be belittled if that is what others believe in.

As an aside, have any male family members died in your home since your wife put up the red shirt?

I have shown those articles to my wife. She was quite surprise at the seriousness of the situation and the difficulty she had at finding news stories from the main media outlets.
