I can see vaccination being a must to enter and stay in Thailand. Knowing immigration's belt and braces approach to most things, I would imagine a negative test could also be required.

There is some logic to that comment................................ so we can safely assume that it will not happen.

Vaccine wise, I rather not have the Sinovac vaccine but rather opt for the Pfizer or Moderna ones.

Why?

Quote
A coronavirus vaccine developed by China's Sinovac has been found to be 50.4% effective in Brazilian clinical trials, according to the latest results released by researchers. It shows the vaccine is significantly less effective than previous data suggested - barely over the 50% needed for regulatory approval

I would doubt you would get a choice. If the vaccine is part of the immigration process, you will no doubt be given the one that the Thai government are using.

I fear "give" is not correct word.
Guess "have to buy" fits better :-)

But should be interesting to hear their reasoning for this bright idea :-)

The reasoning is obvious.

I think that the target group is migrant workers (even though many arrive illegally)  -  the issue is that Farangs may get caught up in it as well............ certainly those with work permits; for other resident/visiting expats let's wait and see.

A quick search of the internet and a couple of Facebook groups. It amazes me how many people get annoyed about these things. One group calling it racist and xenophobic. Unreal.

I like living here. If I need to go an have a cotton bud stuck up my nose and a needle in my arm to stay here then so be it. What's the beef?

Whether I agree with it or not does not matter; I respect the Thai authorities' right to set whatever terms they wish.

(They are obviously racist and xenophobic - but that is not the point in question).

Richard Barrow in Thailand
41 m  ?
IMPORTANT: A test for #COVID19 will be required from next week onwards for every foreigner who wishes to extend their stay in the kingdom, the immigration police said Monday.
♦️COVID-19 Test Will Be Mandatory for All Visa Extensions https://www.khaosodenglish.com/.../covid-19-test-result... #Thailand
👉 Hopefully all of those keyboard warriors who were attacking me over the weekend, here and on ThaiVisa, will now apologise. Though I doubt that will happen.

BANGKOK ? A spokesman for the immigration police on Tuesday walked back on his announcement that a negative COVID-19 test result will be mandatory for every foreigner who wishes to extend their stay in the kingdom.

Immigration bureau spokesman Archayon Kraithong previously said on Monday the new measure will be applied to ?every type of visa,? regardless of how long the foreigner has stayed in the country.

But less than an hour after his remark was reported on Khaosod English ? sparking an uproar among expats on social media ? the spokesman reached back to say he was misinformed about the new policy, and offered an apology.

?I apologize for the misunderstanding,? Maj. Gen. Archayon said. ?It will only apply to certain types of visa, most likely the permanent resident visa.?

Now..... is that the backtrack on the original decision - or a backtrack on the new requirement?
