Looking for Fellow MC Riders and Rides
« on: July 22, 2020, 09:59:34 PM »
Howdy folks. It's been 3 years since coming here to retire and after dealing with a few "issues" (health problems for me, land dispute (thankfully settled) for my wife) I'm starting to get settled here. As such, I'm getting very close to going over to Honda BigWing in Buriram and buying a CBR650R (sportbike but NOT a "race-replica").

I've got about 40 yrs riding experience in one of the best riding places in the world (N. Calif./S.. Bay Area). Started on a Kawi Mach I (500cc triple, two-stroke) rode a Suzuki TS400 (single-cylinder enduro) as a youngin'. After college, rode a BMW K75S (inline 3-cylinder sport-tourer), then two generations of the BMW GS, dual-sports, before riding Harley "baggers" (touring bikes). So I feel like going to an inline 4-cylinder sport bike that is comfortable enough to do some longer/touring rides down the line.

With that in mind, I'm wondering what decent rides there are around. (I know it's pretty flat here compared to the north, and I know I'll never get the rides I got in the Western US, but I've been on some okay, twisty little country roads here and in Surin.) Also, wondering if there are any folks that like to do regular rides in the area. Perhaps a weekly lunch ride somewhere or something like that. Heck, I'd consider an occasional ride on the 226 over to Korat for a lunch and then ride back or even a possible overnight stay.

So, any riders here that meet up to do local rides and any decent local rides to enjoy? I live in Buriram town, just on the outskirts about 4 km from the back entrance to Taweekit, not too far from the 288 Bar & Restaurant.

I think you'll find a large group of lads that go on long rides in Buriram. Get up to Paddy's Bar and park your bike out the front. Someone will say hi. Its a very friendly place.

GT (Golden Triangle) Riders website is very good for info and there are also a number of FB pages that promote group tours.

Thanks Wayne. Since I don't go out on the town too much, don't think I've ever been to Paddy's. If so, it was way back when I first got here. I'll definitely swing over there sometime, once I get my bike. Could you let me know where it is?

Thanks again.

Thanks Vlad. I'm aware of that group from previous Google searches. (In fact, I have their website bookmarked.) I'm hoping longer term to head up to the Chiang Rai/Chiang Mai area to do some riding in the mountains there, as that's the kind of riding I like.

Shorter/nearer term I was hoping to find some decent local riders and rides (e.g. Prasat Phanom Rung or somewhere nearabouts).

Thanks for the info Freddy. I'm not on Facebook but I'll see if I can find it through a web/Google search. Those are exactly the kind of rides I'd been thinking of.

Unfortunately, getting some resistance from the wife again. :(  I'm hoping it will eventually wear off.

Thanks again.

Many thanks to those who replied to this topic or sent me PMs with info and advice. It?s much appreciated.

Picked up the bike yesterday and thankfully, by bringing the wife, she warmed up to the idea, although she?s not interested in riding with me. But that?s not a problem. (I unintentionally frightened her on a ride very soon after bringing her to the states a few years ago.)

Anyway, I?ll be doing some ?break-in mileage? riding the next few days. I?ll most likely reach out to some of you folks who were kind enough to contact me.

Thanks again.

PS Any recommendations for a decent, mesh, riding jacket. Probably XL or XXL. I sold off my leather jackets before moving here.

Thanks fellas. I checked the Alpinestar store in town but didn?t see anything that I liked from their very limited inventory. I may have found a decent jacket on eBay but I?ll check out Panda rider too.

I also found a source for some riding pants during my online searches, Assero Gear:

Thanks again
