Garden Fork
« on: May 19, 2019, 07:46:27 AM »
I've been coming and going from our land in Nong Hong Song as I am trying to cultivate a veg patch.

I've been struggling with Thai gardening tools that have been lying around, struggling being the ultimate word.

Having been to HomePro, ThaiWatsadu and Global House I am beginning to think that there are no garden forks for sale anywhere.

Anyone seen them around?

Thanks.

Hard to come by, good idea for a little manufacturing project but the Thais would rather use a stick.
Have the same problem in my garden and the FIL plowed five rai with the kwai lex , we have tractors all around the village but he did a first class job. Now we just need some rain.

I was wondering if it may be possible to ask a welder to fabricate one for me. I could easily get pictures from the internet.

Gerry,

I had the same problems sometime ago when looking for specific Garden Hoe. (see picture).

In the end I gave up and ordered one via Amazon and it arrived quickly. Maybe this is an option ??

Thanks for the advice. I've been there once and won't be going again. I find the guy in there a bit over powering and he tried to sell me some things I didn't need.

Your choice entirely where you shop Gerry, but you won't find a builders merchants/ DIY store more tuned to the needs of the Farang outside of Bangkok I think. Mr Pichai, Bob, and his team are always willing to try and source any items you cannot find elsewhere, and many of the floor staff speak a very passable English. The other big national stores in town are a total waste of time, with poorly trained staff with little or no understanding of the products they are selling. Any enquiry for something that is not on the shelf will be answered with a blanc look, and a "Mai mi"

Even for products they have you will get that answer as they have no idea (not care mostly) ;)

That is not my experience. Something I needed was unavailable and they tried to sell me something else.

I now use Global House for all my DIY needs, except for garden forks!!!

I agree with madam. In my experience if I am looking for a particular product at Ruangsangthai and Bob or his staff have not had good luck with the item, they will let you know pros and cons based on their customers experience. I also give feedback on items that have worked very well and items that are not so good. Sometimes it is more cost effective to go with a better product than have to redo jobs. You won?t get after sale service on things you buy at the other stores.

Try the Chong Chom Border Market about 10KM past Kup Chang immigration, they have probably at least 10 different stores selling tools, I think I remember seeing forks.  However, I could be wrong.

For Forks Sake  :)

In Post No 6 above, I did suggest Mr DIY in Buriram. I bought one there.  No need to travel miles!  Seems my suggestion was overlooked with all the positive/negative comments re Ruansangthai.

Sorry Nick. I was hoping to look into your suggestion at the weekend and then reply. Got held up in Nong Hong Song. I will take a look. Thanks.

I am certainly not going to travel 100+ kms based on someone's vague memory.
