Joe Putrell passed on May 3
« on: May 07, 2019, 09:23:40 PM »

I just got word that Joe passed away on May 3.  He was a 75 year old American living in Buriram.  He had no significant other so I am not aware of anyone doing funeral arrangements.  I heard the embassy was contacted and his body is at the hospital.

He rode around on a Black Honda Click or he bought a grey Honda Rebel about 2 years ago.  He made the rounds at most of the local bars.

He had been sick as was trying to get to the Philippines to go to the Veterans Hospital.

Hi all what happens to Joe now

Not sure.  As far as I know Joe's only next of kin was his brother that he had not talked to for about 10 years.  He had a recent Girl Friend which has been said to be dealing with the Embassy.  I have not been able to contact an American friend that family owned Joe's home to see how they are involved.  We are just stepping back letting the GF and Embassy handle it.

I had an American friend that passed away back in 2013 in Mae Sot. The US Consulate in Chiang Mai contacted me for info about him by calling my cell number. This was how I was notified of his death. I was told that my number was in his phone and was the only Farang number in it. They asked of our relationship and if I knew of any next of kin back in the US. I gave what info I had and they only thing they would tell me was the date and town of his death. My contacts in Chiang Mai faired no better. Some 4 months passed and no info so I contacted the consulate again. The gentleman I spoke with told me IF no next of kin was verified that  the individuals belongings would sold and proceeds donated to charity in Thailand, his remains would be cremated. Another couple months passed and I received another call from his cell phone and was told that he did have a heart attack and no next of kin was found and his remains were cremated. I do not hold out any hope for info from his GF but she may and I say may get some information.

Well the US Embassy contacted me today looking for Joe's brother.  Through dumb luck and facebook I believe I got his address and passed it to the embassy.  Maybe Joe will be able to RIP soon.

Thanks for your update. I hope others read my post and yours. Unless a family member comes forward we will never know of the final results. :(
